Devotional: Loving Much
When we love someone, we shouldn’t have a problem showing them or demonstrating our love. Without an expression, it lacks substance. That’s why our love for God needs to become more than a thought or an idea, but should have an authentic expression behind. After all, His love for us does! And we find just that in Luke 7:36-50.
Even as the woman pours out her love for Jesus, others didn’t understand, but Jesus made it clear that this was the way He wanted to have a relationship with His people. Jesus makes a comparison between the Pharisee and the woman in the story, but what we see is that acknowledging what we have been given enables us to give what God deserves.
Questions for Meditation
- Think about the intimate and exclusive relationships in your life. How is that you receive love, and how is that you show love?
- Why was the way the woman expressed her love so extravagant? What made it stand out to Jesus?
- What happens when we’re willing to pour out our affection toward God? How does He respond?
- What are some ways that we are prohibitive in our expression for God? What are some reasons for that? Starting today, how can we practically address these areas of expression of our love for God?
