Devotional: The Original Image
Every day, we are confronted with conflicting and distorted messages about what our life should be like. These messages come from many different places, such as culture, family and friends. However, amidst all these voices, the original plan of God for our lives must cut through them all.
This is because the original plan of God for our lives is the best, healthiest, holiest plan possible for our lives. This plan is for us to “be fruitful and increase in number” (Gen. 1:28). The first step in accomplishing this original plan is by conforming to his original image.
Questions for Meditation:
-
What does it mean to be made in the Image of God?
-
We are living in a time that worships self-image. However, God calls us to conform ourselves to the image of his Son (Rom. 8:28). What are some things that act as obstacles to us focusing more on His image than our own self-image?
-
Because we are made in the image of God, we have intrinsic value, and therefore can be at peace with ourselves. Why is believing that we have intrinsic value so integral to fulfilling our task to “be fruitful and increase in number?”
-
How does conforming to the image of God allow us to more fully give of ourselves?
-
What are some ways that you can give of yourself more and be like God in ways of service?
-
Why is shame so destructive in our lives? What is God’s response to shame?
