Devotional: Palm Sunday Service

We are all prodigals. We all naturally run from God. But we also naturally want his embrace. Every other faith makes us work and journey our way back. But only the God of Christianity runs towards people that run away from Him. In Luke 15:20, we see a Father who did not wait, but ran towards His runaway son. We see a Father embracing – and kissing – a son who was still a long way from home. How? The Father embraces us as His own children because the son of God embraced the cross. That is what Landon’s testimony, and every testimony, is all about.  

Questions For Meditation

1. For Landon, running from God meant believing in God but living selfishly too. Was there a time you ran from God? Was it drastic? Was it gradual?
2. Running away from God means running towards other things. What do you run towards? What do you try to replace God with?
3. Did you ever sense the Father looking for you, running after you, or embracing you? When? Where were you? 
4. You may not identify with Landon’s testimony or the prodigal son because you never strayed from God. Are you in less need of God’s forgiveness than the prodigal? Are you in any less need of the cross?
5.  Romans 5:6 says Christ died for us at just the right time. Whether you are far from home or a lifelong believer, when is the right time to receive His forgiveness and embrace?
