Devotional: What Faith Doesn’t Need In Order to Obey

Having complete faith and trust in God can be hard at times. We may know that God has a plan for us or we may be holding onto a promise He gave us, but sometimes we still struggle to walk in it with complete faith as we wait for the fulfillment. We can be too consumed with needing to know every detail or we can unintentionally put expectations on God to do things in a certain way. We can also be in a place of fear, because knowing what we need to do can make us uncomfortable.

It’s important to remember when we follow God, we are putting our faith in a person. God wants us to obey Him unconditionally, even if it means calling us out of what’s comfortable. His greatest desire for us as His dearly loved children is for us to grow, as well as receive all He has promised.

Question for Meditation

1. Sometimes we don’t move forward in God because we don’t know every detail of His plan. What are some details of a particular situation you’re facing that is causing you to not have complete faith in God?

2. When Abraham got to the land that God promised him, he lived in a tent as a foreigner. He was living there uncomfortably, but was confident God would give him what He had promised. Is getting out of your comfort zone a challenge for you? If so, in what areas of your life is this a challenge?

3.  What are the pros and cons of being uncomfortable? How could being uncomfortable make us closer to God? What is a situation you have been uncomfortable in and how did that affect your relationship with God?

4. In the next week, what are steps of obedience you are going to take by having faith in God without asking for details or worrying about being uncomfortable?
