Devotional: Faith Refuses

As we continue on our journey through the Faith series, we see in Hebrews 11:24-29, through the life of Moses, that faith refuses anyone or anything in the face of better knowledge or relationship. Instead, faith looks forward to what God has for us, and therefore we can refuse the things of this world for the promise of what is to come. Moses refused to align himself with ungodliness and knew that his greatest need was to have intimacy with God.

Questions for Meditation

1. What are some ways that we can increase our level of intimacy with God?
2. Faith refuses ungodly relationships, even if they fill a deep felt-need. What are some signs that it is time to let a certain relationship go?
3. Has there ever been a time in your life where you had to let a relationship go? Are there any relationships in your life now that you need to let go of?
4. Faith in God is a confident expectation in His provision, presence and power. However, the enemy wants to give us his counterfeit provision, his unsatisfying presence, and his phony power. What are some ways the enemy tricks us into taking his bait? How do we always feel after being cheated by the devils deceitful tactics?
5. When you do business with the devil, you get cheated. The devil is always promising us “the world,” but what he actually provides is destructive and leaves us empty. What are some practical things that you can do to ensure that you are not cheated by the devil?
6. The enemy tells us that some short-term pleasures will give us satisfaction, but we see that there is only one relationship that truly satisfies. Why do you think some people are not able to understand this? What does a God-centered, Christ-satisfying life truly look like?
